Angie:
Thanks!
I'm going to remember your comments about the first three months. Breastfeeding is a whole new skill and habit - it makes sense that it would take a while to get easy.

So, here I sit. I should be writing out my grocery list for the coming week (or countless other things), but I'm reading your blog posts instead. :) What can I say...they're interesting. And I love food and babies. :)

As someone who has breastfed for 4.5 out of the past 7 years - here here!! And, GOOD LUCK! As Amber pointed out, not all are lucky enough to even be able to. But, I'm not surprised to hear that about the 3 month mark. I found the first 3 months of all 3 of my babies to be the hardest. Hands down. After that, things become much easier and continue to get easier each month.

Amber: kudos to you for all the effort. You're certainly not the only mother that kind of thing happens to. I wonder if next time around (assuming you plan to have another child at some point) things will be different.

Also, I'm curious: did you contact La Leche League during that time? From what I read about them, they're often helpful in situations like that.

Hmm, I find the article's figures surprising. Only 32 % of mothers who started out breastfeeding are still breastfeeding at 3 months? None of the moms in my circles fit into that category (they have all breastfed at least up until a year)--I'm the closest one. I never produced enough breastmilk for one full feeding, despite the many different things my lactation consultant and I tried in order to increase my supply. Then as soon as I hit the 3 month mark, even what I had just disappeared without reason or warning. It's a shame that for some of us who are willing to go to such efforts to give our infants what they say is the best (breastmilk), we just can't, despite much time and pain putting for the effort.
