Food Budget

June 2, 2008 – 3:00 pm

In preparation for me quitting my job and us traveling much of the summer, hubby and I took a long hard look at our budget. And realized that the amount of money we were spending on food was Rid-Iculous. So we are now on a very strict cash-in-envelope grocery money system.  $60 per week.  When it’s gone it’s gone.

It has been an excellent excercise.  Not only has it made us think more frugally, but also we make healthier choices by buying less prepared foods, and we’re more loyal to our leftovers.  More proof of the Green Triangle’s wisdom.  Our eating out has scaled way back (from once a week or more, to once a month), so grabbing falafels or a six-pack of New Belgium Mothership Wit is a more-appreciated treat. Overall, it has made me (and i think hubby might agree) more thankful for our food.

Give us this day our daily bread…
